Part of the mission of the Ball State University Singers is to reach out to others, not only through music, but also through community service. This year, the 45th University Singers cast sponsored a child named Obey who is from Zimbabwe. Through the World Vision Organization, the Ball State University Singers has been able to support Obey with over sixth months of care and will continue to support him throughout his childhood.
Obey was part of the University Singers family from his birth, which was on January 29, 1999. This date not only celebrates the life of Obey, but is also called “University Singers Day” where the cast and community celebrate the history of the Ball State University Singers. Obey and his family frequently send cards and letters to the cast to update the Singers on Obey’s progress in primary school and life. In return, the cast sends Obey frequent packages filled with performance photos, games and cards of encouragement.
